French consumers spent €52.2 billion online in the second quarter of 2026, up 8.5% year on year. Fevad, the French e-commerce and distance selling federation, published the figures on 21 September.
The growth comes from the number of orders, not their size. Transactions jumped 13.5% while the average basket fell 4.3% to €59.70. “The falling average basket is a reminder that purchasing power remains central to consumers’ choices,” said Marc Lolivier, Fevad’s managing director.
A peak not to over-read
The first quarter had grown just 4.7%. Over the half-year, growth reached 6.6%. After a June peak, July slowed back to +4.8%, and the first seven months came in at +6.8%, below 2025’s full-year pace (+7.1%). Fevad itself urges caution against reading too much into the June peak given July’s slower pace.
Sport leads
Among the categories Fevad tracks for the second quarter, sport rose 16.2%, home textiles 12.2%, tech and household appliances 8.5% and beauty 7.4%.
